Colline Lucchesi Sangiovese Tuscan Red Wine “Picchio Rosso” 2016
Il Picchio 2016 Tuscan Red Wine
Il Picchio (The woodpecker) comes from our Sangiovese and Merlot vineyards. The grapes are manually selected and collected in small boxes. Merlot is harvested in late August. Sangiovese late September, early October.
Maceration takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for 15 days, ageing in barriques for 12/14 months and then in bottle for about 12 months before being marketed. Picchio is a wine of great complexity and remarkable structure which with the passage of time is increasingly important. The colour is intense purple-red, the nose shows fruity and spicy aromas such as black pepper and vanilla.
The balance between alcohol and fine tannins is good, with a strong structure and flavour, with long persistence. Excellent with red meats, game, roasts and stews, perfect with aged cheeses.
