Information on artisanal wines from the Rhaetian Alps
The production area of the artisanal wine of the Rhaetian Alps includes the entire territory of the municipalities in the province of Sondrio.
The origins of viticulture and artisanal wine production in Valtellina are very distant in time. The agricultural exploitation of the territory and the terraced arrangement can be traced back to Roman if not pre-Roman times, as the first inhabitants of the valley were the Ligurians, followed by the Etruscans, and both peoples noticed the cultivation of the vine.
